Exploring Shetland – May 2025
Empty beaches, rugged coastline, fresh air, stunning scenery, island culture… does this sound like your perfect adventure? Join us in May 2025.
The Shetland Islands are made up of over 100 islands sitting between Norway and Scotland. Just 400 miles south of the Arctic Circle, and as far north as St Petersburg, Russia, or Anchorage, Alaska, this set of Scottish Islands are like no other. Just over 500 years ago, Shetland was given to Scotland as a dowry from the King of Norway and the Norse heritage and culture is still very much part of life for Shetlanders. With their own flag, dialect, traditions and culture Shetland is a world of its own.
Experience the islands with one of the locals ‘Shetland Islands with Leah’.
Leah will host this unique experience immersing you into her home with a schedule of bespoke entertainment and activities that will allow you to experience Shetland in an exclusive and exciting way. Experience the landscape from Leah’s eyes as she knows all the best places to go and how to experience Shetland at its best. Get to know the locals through a series of curated evenings of local food and music. See the wildlife in its natural habitat and enjoy unforgettable encounters with a variety of seabirds, sea life and more…
What better way to experience Shetland, than with a local. This is the trip you’ve been waiting for.
Local Host, Leah.
I’m so delighted to have this opportunity to take a small group of guests on a special tour of Shetland with me. I’m so passionate about the islands and I cannot wait to meet guests who will no doubt leave as friends, and hopefully come back again once they’ve experienced the magic of this place.
For those with a real interest in Shetland you may have come across Leah before. Perhaps you follow her very successful social media channels where she beautifully shares here experiences, heritage and passion for these islands. For more information or to connect with Leah directly then one of the best places to find her is here at Shetland Islands with Leah.
What will my week look like?
Your experience begins in the island capital of Lerwick on the Monday morning where you’ll meet Leah your host, local driver and other guests. You may wish to arrive the evening before, but we are also offering the option to travel on the overnight ferry from Aberdeen. We can share more information about both of these options with you when planning the detail of your escape to Shetland.
Over the week Leah will take you to explore parts of the South Mainland including the beautiful beaches at St Ninian’s Isle and down at Sumburgh Head. You’ll also travel across the North Mainland where highlights include trails around Eshaness, Hillswick and a unique hands on rural experience near North Roe. We are excited for you to head out onto the water to explore one of the local nature reserves in the area – home to vast arrays of nesting seabirds in the soaring cliffs above the sea. Leah will also take you for a visit to one or two of the larger inhabited islands off the mainland too to explore the unique culture of islanders in these parts. With visits to local heritage centres, as well as private experiences with local musicians, crafts people and artists carefully selected by Leah, not to mention sampling the wonderful local produce from both land and sea and some local drinks, your week is sure to offer variety and insight to life here in Shetland.
You’ll stay in a well located small hotel for the four nights of the trip giving you the opportunity to relax and not feel like you are living out of a suitcase whilst exploring Shetland.
On your final morning you will check-out from your hotel and enjoy a full day out exploring with your lunch included before returning to the island capital of Lerwick by 4PM where you will bid farewell to your fellow travellers and your experience comes to an end. This leaves plenty of time for those wishing to depart Shetland by ferry that evening to Aberdeen, or fly out from Sumburgh Airport.
